The idea of using electronic stimulation on muscles to excite them and get them to work out properly has been around for some time now. Earlier this technology was restricted to use with only athletes and trainers who used expensive EMS machines or electromagnetic stimulation devices with gel pads on them to bring a certain amount of movement in injured muscle parts of the body thus getting a person ready to play in less time.
These machines underwent changes and became smaller until they could be marketed to the public as bodybuilding replacements. One particular example of a first generation EMS device is the GERD machine. This was a gel pad based design that was bulky and costly too but with time it too got replaced with tinier and cheaper machines with more power and better functionality. Today, the outcome of this is the flex belt which can be called the successor of the GERD belt.
